Parascylliidae - collared carpetsharks

There are seven species in this family of sharks. They have slender bodies and narrow heads. They are 1-3 feet in length and have patterns made up of spots and splotches on their bodies.

Collared carpet sharks are found on muddy, sandy, or rocky ocean floors and can change their color to match the sea floor! They found in shallow waters near Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, China, and Japan. They spend most of their time on the ocean floor or hidden in the rocks or coral.

Collared carpet sharks have spots and splotches of color that help camouflage them from other sea creatures, especially prey like fish, octopus, and crabs! They have flaps of skin around their mouths that look like shaggy carpet fringe and small, sharp teeth that help them catch prey.
