| There are around six species in this family. They have long, pointed snouts; no scales; long, rat-like tails; and large dorsal fins with a stiff poisonous spine. They are found in deep waters in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. They swim by flapping their pectoral fins! They use their long, pointed snouts to deep in on the ocean floor for shellfish and crustaceans. They swim by flapping their large pectoral fins up and down! Species include: the longnosed chimaera and the knifenose chimaera. |
